Checa starts over again in FP1 at Magny Cours
Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) started off his Magny-Cours campaign in the best possible way with quickest time in today's opening free practice session. Checa just needs three points to clinch this year's title and the Spaniard was again on top form, powering to the front with one-tenth's advantage over Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) and the competitive BMW Motorrad Motorsport duo of Troy Corser and Leon Haslam.
Jakub Smrz (Effenbert - Liberty Racing Ducati) was fifth quickest ahead of Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare), who had a harmless crash. Ruben Xaus (Castrol Honda) was another faller. Checa's only title rival Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) is currently lying down in fifteenth place.
